Update on the UN Gun Treaty

ALERT: For those seeking more information on the coming UN gun treaty…

UN Arms Trade Treaty Is a Serious Threat to Your Second Amendment Rights (Liberty News Network)

The United Nations is working on the Arms Trade Treaty, something they say will target arms deals across international borders but critics claim will have an impact on your right to bear arms.  The Washington Times explains what exactly they are doing:

This week, the U.N. General Assembly began formal discussion of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), which seeks to establish “common international standards for the import, export and transfer of conventional arms.” The scope of the proposed treaty is vast. It covers tanks, military vehicles, aircraft (including drones), ships, submarines, missiles and ammunition. It seeks to regulate arms import, export, transfer, brokering, manufacture under foreign license and technology transfer. The proposed global regulation instructs countries to “take the necessary legislative and administrative measures, to adapt, as necessary, national laws and regulations to implement the obligations of this treaty.”

In usual United Nations fashion, they’ve allowed Iran to help formulate the treaty, despite the fact Iran is sending arms to Syria so they can slaughter their people in the streets:

A little more than a week after accusing Iran of supplying arms for Syria’s bloody crackdown on democracy-minded rebels, the UN has given Tehran a key seat at negotiations for a global arms treaty.

The stunning appointment by member states attending the UN Conference of the Arms Trade Treaty in New York came last week, and is just the latest example of the world body appointing rogue and repressive regimes to leadership roles. The 15-nation committee to which Iran was appointed hopes to guide what could eventually become the first legally binding global treaty aimed at regulating the international trade of conventional arms.

Like Blazing Car Fur wrote, “That’s sort of like OJ saying he really wants to track down the real killers, isn’t it?”

We are told there is nothing to worry about, however we all know the way the left plays its game.  Pass something that looks harmless, then build upon that until the ultimate goal is achieved.  It’s called incrementalism.

Dick Morris explains how the left will use this treaty to curb your Constitutional rights:

The ATT is to be administered by an International Support Unit (ISU), which will assure that “parties [to the treaty] small take all necessary measures to control brokering activities taking place within its territories…to prevent the diversion of exported arms to the illicit market or to unintended end users.”

The ISU will determine whether nations are in compliance with this requirement and will move to assure that they do, indeed, take “all necessary measures.” This requirement will inexorably lead to gun registration, restrictions on ownership, and, eventually, even outright bans on firearms.

There’s the incrementalism I spoke of before.  Nothing happens at first.

Then the ISU says we need to register all our guns to be in compliance with the treaty.  Then we have to set up parameters as to who can legally own a gun.  Then, when they find more and more “violations,” they call for an outright ban.  It probably won’t be exactly like that, but it will be similar.

Nonsense, you say.

Investors Business Daily notes:

A paper by the U.N.’s Coordinating Action on Small Arms (CASA) notes that arms have been “misused by lawful owners” and says that the “arms trade therefore be regulated in ways that would … minimize the misuse of legally owned weapons.” Is defending your home against intruders a “misuse”?

Would you put it past the dictators who unanimously voted Iran onto the committee to define “misuse” in a way that disarms the citizens of the world?

If so, you have more faith in tyrants than any of the Founding Fathers.

The treaty should not be signed.  It should not be ratified.  It should not even be taken seriously.

Over one hundred and thirty Republicans have “sent a letter to President Obama and Secretary Clinton warning that the treaty is ‘likely to pose significant threats to our national security, foreign policy and economic interests as well as our constitutional rights’”  You can support them by calling the White House, calling your representatives and telling them all you oppose this treaty.

The people’s voices still matter, especially during an election year. [emphasis mine]

Editor’s Note:  READ the last two paragraphs and do what they say to preserve our Constitutional rights! This is one more step toward Marxism that we can stop now.

God speaks a lot about the fate of nations and those who don't support His people, Israel. It's in His Word, called the Bible. If folks would like the "Readers' Digest" version of how God treats those who badly treat His people (and how He disciplines His chosen ones as well), read the prophet Isaiah. It's only 66 short chapters and has battles, slaughters and lots of action scenes to keep you interested and awake. There's even a little poetry and some verses you're sure to recognize. If you're not up to that, just read this: ~~~ Genesis 12:3 (NIV) "I will bless those who bless you (meaning Israel), and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” ~~~ I'd take it seriously, since God's purposes will NOT be thwarted.

God’s Covenant with Abram – the Land

Genesis 15:18-21 (NIV) On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram and said, “To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates— the land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites, Hittites, Perizzites, Rephaites, Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites and Jebusites.”

Zechariah 12:9 (KJV)

And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.

Samuel Adams

“If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.”
